We got to know a young man, and his family, who was part of the red light community. He was one of the first individuals reached by our mobile HIV clinic, testing positive for HIV. Eden helped him to access care and medication, but at the age of 22, he was diagnosed with AIDS. His parents had been keeping us updated on his condition, but a few weeks ago, on a late night outreach we found out he only had days left to live. Although it was almost midnight, our outreach team drove all the way out of the city to visit him in his village.
When we arrived, he was not breathing well and clearly in immense pain. He could not speak or move; he was looking death straight in the face. With his parents and his 16 year old wife around him, we prayed for him. Though it was difficult to, he responded positively to our prayer and invited Jesus into his life and to take him to Heaven.
When we looked up from our prayers, we saw there was now about 30 people who had crammed into the tiny one-room grass hut on stilts. It was clear that they wanted to know more about the gospel, so we shared the Good News and 3 people received Jesus!
The young man passed away at 4 pm the next day, but we left his home rejoicing having witnessed his decision to accept Christ. Little did we foresee that some days later a van would unexpectedly arrive at church – full of people who had heard about Jesus that night!
We give praise for how these circumstances have eternally impacted his family and community, and ask that you pray for Eden as we continue to outreach not only to individuals but to whole communities.
